The material itself contains calcium nutrients that allow beneficial, encrusting algae to grow. These encrusting algae use the calcium found in aragonite to create calcium carbonite, an essential part of any hard coral’s home.
Not only do the encrusting algae help your corals, but they also help give your reef a beautiful red, blue, and purple color scheme. You won’t get the same effect with egg cartons or ceramic.
The creation process results in a very natural bumpy surface, which simulates real live rock and stimulates beneficial bacteria growth.
